Personalization in society doesn't just exist in your iPod or your TV channels. It's not just about the media you watch, but also the products you buy. I'm pretty sure that fifty years ago, no one thought of themselves as having "combination skin."
But in the ongoing effort to have the customer feel like a product was created with them in mind, some companies have gone overboard, going from personalized products to customindless products. The latest is Speed Stick's effort to get individuals to believe that they have an individual "pit type." As in arm pit type. Check it out here.
That's right -- those other companies just don't get you. They don't know what makes you you. They don't know that you have a pit type that needs to be catered to. In all honesty, it's nice to offer choices, different products for different needs. But the creation of the concept of a pit type just sounds kind of absurd.
Feel free to share in the comments any other customindless products that take the concept of personalization to a newly absurd level.
